Our visit to the Metcalfe Fair!

Today we ventured out to one of the small towns just outside of Ottawa for what we heard was the last small town fair of the year. Big C went for an early afternoon nap and the 4 of us were raring to go. Mimi stayed home to work on her schooling since she missed part of last week with the flu.

When we arrived they were just setting up the fire trucks to take a picture of the fair. The boys were in awe as the ladder truck came to a full stop, raised its ladder all the way up and then one of the firefighters ascended for the photo. Big C volunteered asking 'Mommy, I want to go down (out of the confinement stroller)'. Mommy knows her son very well and replied "sweetie, you can't climb the ladder". He answered "why??"

After paying admission we were off to get our ride tickets. The boys were more interested in the inanimate car by the ticket booth than the moving rides themselves. In this photo they are trying to figure out how to make this one "work" What's a parent to do?
Monkey and mommy had a great afternoon - snuggling up extra close for this photo taken at mommy's arm length. Then came the rides. We scoped them out, but quickly found the one where we;d spend the better part of the afternoon - the train ride. Here are a few snippets of the boys sitting in the locomotive (the only car that they'd get into) and each one having a turn ringing the bell.
Here are the kids in the area where they were letting the kids 'drive' the fire trucks. They were giving away free firefighter hats and all sorts of other goodies. The kids totally ate it up. I can only imagine the safety check the next time that they have to take this bad boy out on the roads. I bet that the wipers are on, all the lights and sirens as well as everything that can work backwards being set to go backwards.

Monkey and Big C each had a great time feeding the animals too. The baby animals were the popular target for our kids as our mommy tried to fend off the older, more capable animals from taking their food.

The kids finished off the day on a variety of rides that including everything from the stationary ATV display to the thrill of the swings, the Scrambler and the bouncy castle.

Here's monkey and mommy on Grandpa's favourite ride. The scrambler. He LOVED IT!!!

All in all it was a couple of hours of pure pleasure and we'll be certainly hitting the summer fairs soon enough in '09.
