More evidence of a happy baby

Here, pictured with dada (from our sister blog) is more evidence of this little man enjoying the company of his non-lactating father. He seems to enjoy the company of people other than mama in only short bursts.

Look who dressed himself today...

Anyone see anything a little odd? He wore this ALL day and refused to make alternate arrangements.

He gets this from his mother's side of the family

Monkey has a new bed and Shayla-la has already commented that his future bride will be at a disadvantage when trying to share a bed the same size as he is used to having on his own. I laughed my head off the other night when I went in and discovered that he shares his mother and aunt's cover sharing style.
He has all of his Olive Kids Out Of This World bedding pulled off of the far side of the bed and either on him....
Or draped over the bed on the floor.
He comes by that quite honestly!! I do feel badly for his future bride. She may want to stitch a couple of covers together in a treadmill style loop so that as he pulls the covers, more will just loop up from under the bed.

Focus your attention please (Christy)

I just wanted to point out that in the stack of books piled on top of BigC in this photo you will find the 911 book lovingly sent by Christy last January. He STILL loves it!!

The new "bed"

So big C has picked a new location for sleeping in. Dave and I have decided to be perfectly fine with it.

He has made this little nest and has asked us not to move him back to his bed after he has fallen asleep.
Whatever! He's asleep, that is good enough for me! (yes, he has a diaper on!)

The ice cream cone

Monkey gets an allowance. He can spend it how he chooses. The intention is that he learns some responsibility with his money.
This week the ice cream truck came by and he wanted to get a cone. The BIGGEST cone they had. No problem bud, it is your money. He spent $4 and bought a MONSTER vanilla ice cream cone enrobed in chocolate. He loved it!!!

In the end he only ate about 2/3 of it before his belly started to hurt and the ice cream dripped everywhere. Daddy made quick work of the leftovers and Monkey was very pleased with his purchase....though does think he would get a smaller one next time!!

A stroll down memory lane

Recently I came across some wedding photos and I thoroughly enjoyed going through them.

Hope you enjoyed them too. That was almost 9 years ago.

The big day has finally arrived. Big C has started soccer.
I was telling one of the dads this past week that after last summer he started asking everyday "is it time for 'tofoganning' yet?" every single day.
Finally the snow fell.
The very next day....
'Daddy'
'Yes Big C'
"When do I start playing soccer?"
"soon"
"how soon"
'fifty sleeps"
"Is that until I can count to fifty...one.two...three..."

Thankfully the fifty sleeps (and fifty time asking how many more sleeps) have come and gone.
Here we are getting ready:

And he's loving it.
Here he is in his 'blue dinosaur' team uniform practicing all of his skills.
Lining up with all of his team mates (including three of his very good friends....Lady M, Miss Chewbacca and Nexta)

These two are just inseparable at practice.

Running towards the ball
Giving it a big boot
Going in for a tackle on the ball

An action shot of Lady Chewbacca:And, all importantly, stopping the ball with his foot and keeping it there (daddy uses that as a tool for listening during practice....love it)

He's having such a good time.
Look out World Cup 2026!

Corn on the cob season

Monkey's first toof came out this week. He was very, very excited! The one beside it is loose as well.

I'm not real big on imaginary "fairies" that sneak in to a child's room while they are sleeping so we laid low on the whole tooth fairy thing. He did find a dollar under his pillow in the morning...

The Diet Coke Mentos Experiment

A while back Monkey received a really cool little device for making a geiser out of a combination of Mentos and Diet coke. I was weary about using it in the backyard when the winter cold was going to make a big frozen syruppy mess. Finally, the day had come.
We started by assembling all the gear. Here's Monkey trying to make it all in one trip.
Here Monkey is putting the device together. Next it was time to count out the 7 Mentos that went in. He was very careful (there was a little voice inside my head whispering 'Just cut the blue wire'....maybe I've seen too many 90's movies).

The cord with the little pull string is pure genius.
You can see the effort and care that he's taking to get this just right.

Here we are ready to launch.
Doing the countdown.
And we're off! (youtube video to follow)

I feel that we'll be making a few trips to the grocery store to pick up some more supplies pretty soon. The smiles and jubilation are worth every penny.

How is that even comfortable?

Big C falls asleep in the most creative ways. I've seen him sleep on stuff like rocks, toys with sharp edges and such. But this was a first:
I've never actually seen him fall asleep with a toy on TOP of his face

Crepes

Mommy got a brand new (to us) crepe maker at the Great Glebe Garage sale this year. After daddy spent a considerable amount of time trying to get the lid off (hint, there is no lid) with no sucess-luckily, mommy made crepes for our Sunday afternoon snack. We had them stuffed with apples, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla ice cream.
All three boys thought that they were quite yummy, if not a little too messy.

The post that Grandpa has been waiting for...

BigC went to bed last night with no diaper and woke up dry this morning!! It is a good thing too since he made himeself a little nest on his carpeted floor and slept there last night.

A trip to the "bubble doctor"

Monkey has been complaining that his hip has been bothering him. This went on for a couple of days and started to worry us. We knew that his family doctor (close to home) would not be able to do much but wanted to get him in to see his chiropractor (not at all close to home, school or the parent with the car).

Daddy arranged to take a half day off of work to bring Monkey in when Grandma swooped in on her white horse (blue jeep) to offer to bring him in. Small price to pay-she has no intention of returning him to school for the afternoon once the appointment is done. A deal was struck!

Mommy met them at the appointment today at lunch time and the chiropractor agreed that his pelvis was out of alignment and asked if he had been growing (a resounding yup). He said that the pain was related to roughhousing, growing and a lot of one sided use of his new scooter. The muscles in his legs have not caught up to his bones yet. He did a very thorough assessment and took about 20 minutes to be sure that he covered his bases.

Grandma asked about limiting activities such as soccer for the next little bit and the chiropractor suggested that Monkey continue just as he has been. He was even impressed with the level of sand coming off of his shoes and the bruises on his knees.
