Monkey's first bowl

When Monkey comes to Grandma's house, they "do pottery." When he was 3, he washed brushes and sponges. At 4, he progressed to using clay to hand-build simple items. He gained her trust by respecting the "dangerous" tools (sharp, pointy). All the while, Grandma worked on the wheel, "throwing" pots. His patience and persistence was rewarded today, when he made his first real bowl on the wheel. He knew that clay had to be "centred", but today he learned what that actually felt like, and how to move it around to form an object.

Line of the day: after pottery, Monkey and Grandma went to brunch to meet some friends. Monkey was so proud to tell Mrs. G. about his pot. Knowing she was speaking to "a small child", she said, " and will you put it into the big oven?" Monkey said, "do you mean the kiln?"

Wow. That's so cool that he's working ont he kiln and learning how to do this.
I'm also quite impressed by his discussion with a 'grownup'. What a little smartie.
