Sydney Road Trip #2

For the second Friday afternoon in a row, I met Dave and the kids at school with a fully packed car and we got on the road to Sydney.  This time Dave had the extreme pleasure of being behind the wheel.  Thankfully we took the highway, it wasn't raining and there were not nearly as many hills.  Even Monkey asked which route we were taking this time as we got on the road!!  That said, we did have to come to a sudden stop as we saw, for the first time ever, a train at this intersection!
We had an uneventful trip in and arrived at our rental accommodation in good time.  We had found a flat in Bellevue Hill on AirBNB.

We are learning as we go along.  We booked parking ahead as per Megan (thanks for the help!!) and it was only $10.  The spots, much like the lanes on the road, were TIGHT.  I suppose when you are in a big city where space is at a premium, this is the result.
We made our Saturday a Groupon day. At Angela's suggestion we went to to the Powerhouse Museum.  It is similar to the Science and Tech Museum in Ottawa (before they closed it and took down the rocket). They happen to have a Groupon deal on right now and we jumped on it.

First sight of the museum
We walked 1K to the museum from our parking spot, through Darling Harbour.

We walked in the front door and were instantly confronted by trains.  So yeah, the boys were sold from the start!
It's possible that this crazy chick photobombed this fine looking young man
There was a really cool exhibit on gears and we even found this model of the Strasbourg clock.  This was expecially interesting to me, as I spent two weeks in Strasbourg during a high school trip in 199...never mind! You can find some random dude's youtube video of the clock in action here.  We got to see it in action and it was really cool.  As you can see from the reflection, we sat front row center.
The kids very quickly started to come up with a long list of things that they want to show to Grandpa at this museum.  Dad, we will need to put this one on the agenda for your trip here.  It really was pretty awesome!
Keeping with the Groupon theme, we walked less than 1k to China Town and ate lunch at a place offering two soups for $11.
We enjoyed our $22 worth of soup as we watched the people of Sydney go by.  The architecture here is really interesting and it is very interesting to watch the throb of the big city.
This building has plants growing all the way up the sides.  I'd love to know more about it.
Back to the museum and we hit the train room
 Toy trains and stuff.

Grandpa needs to see all of this (we have so many more photos for you Grandpa)

A note for the kid who wont drink water without a fight.  He wore one my Camelbaks all day and constantly had the straw in his mouth.  He drank almost an entire liter of water with no reminders and was producing clear fluid.  This is a huge deal for us.

It was an awesome day and we enjoyed relaxing in the flat at the end of the day.

The whole day looks amazing, and I know grandpa will love to share it, but, I must say I am most touched by the last picture of the "two buddies" sharing some time together.

Who needs the science and tech museum when you've got this gem?
