Monkey quote of the day

"Mommy it would be great if we all had three hands. Two in the usual spot and a third one coming from the belly button. That way we could hug and tickle at the same time."

I loved this one! I think this speaks to a boy with a lot of love in his life!

Junk Night!!!

To reduce the amount of requests for candy in the household we decided to model ourselves after our friends and institute a Junk Night. The bean bowl will transform beans into junk during their shower and they come downstairs to find JUNK! We're going through the Easter candy (still) and a few other favourites that include Twizzlers turned into straws for pop and a lollipop for Big C this week. The boys love it (and mommy too).

Monkey's favourite part of the day today

Was "waking up and Grandpa was home. He wasn't home when I went to sleep"

Monkey

Monkey's life at school has been getting a little rough. He confided in me that he is being teased in the boys washroom. It seems that they were teasing him while he was using "the bathroom with no door". As a female it took me a couple of minutes to understand that this is a urinal he is talking about.

We sat down (he and I) and we talked about some things that he could do to try to stop the teasing. We came up with the fact that he could use a stall and close the door.

Teachers can only work with what they know. On Monday he yelled at the boys and told them to stop. His teacher heard this and, not knowing what was going on, isolated Monkey so that he would not cause trouble. On Tuesday and Wednesday he was sent to the bathroom after the others and went on his own. This solution did work for him since he wasn't being teased, but didn't address the root of the problem.

I sent her an email letting her know that he was being teased and asking her if she had noticed anything. She looked in to it, figured out who was instigating the issue and has isolated him instead. Monkey is using a stall with a door (one of the solutions that we had discussed) and the other boy uses the washroom once the rest of them are done.

This has had a real impact on our Monkey. He got 1 of three stickers on Monday, 2 on Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday. His worst week in a LONG time. He got three yesterday, lets hope that it continues today. I am feeling like a good parent for being able to gently help him to work through the problem. It isn't world peace, but it helps.

Why I can safely buy stock in Timmy's

Tonight marked the 12th successful poop on the potty in a row. The kid seems to know just the right time (in his room, after bedtime has commenced and occasionally just after nap time has commenced) to go in his little ensuite bathroom. The ensuite is actually the Baby Bjorn potty (he hated the IKEA one) tucked in the corner. He just loves it there. He's been wonderfully successful and reaping the rewards. I can tell for sure that he has the knack since the tone at the Timmy's in our neighbourhood has changed in its tone. We stop by the next morning after a successful go on the potty and it's usually the first thing that he mentions after we even see the car.

About a week ago the conversation went something like this:
'Tim Hortons, can I help you?"
"two chocolate tim bits please (with a note of elation from the back seat)'

(long pause)
".....uhhh, will that be all???'
'yes, thank you'
(longer pause)
'um, that'll be 36 cents (with a snicker). Please pull ahead'

The conversation this morning:
'Tim Hortons, can I help you?"
"two chocolate tim bits please (with a note of elation from the back seat)'
(immediately)'that'll be 36 cents, enjoy your day!!'

I'm positive that they're watching from the inside as the same dad gives the same order to the same little boy in the backseat of the same car at about the same time each day. I wonder if they've seen it before??

Way to go little buddy!

Happy Birthday daddy!!

Happy birthday honey!! For Dave's birthday this year I bought him two new chairs for the living room. I'll admit that is slightly self serving since he only has one bum and can't sit in both chairs simultaneously *wink*.

We also got him a mug with the boys hand prints on it. Grandma really worked hard to get it ready in time (thank you!!). Here is a video of the best sound ever. Big C loves the chairs and gravitates to whoever is in them. If you want snuggles, this is how you get them!

He loves it and is having a wonderful birthday.

**Monkey doesn't appear in the photos since he wasn't feeling well and was laying down.

Quote of the day

I called Pier 1 Imports to let them know that my mom would be picking up my order today. No problem is the answer. I get off the phone and Monkey is quite annoyed:

Monkey: Mommy, when are you going to stop saying that Grandma is your mom?

Mommy: Ummm, but she's my mom sweetie.

Monkey: Not any more.

Mommy: when did she stop being my mom?

Monkey: when you became a grown up.

Mommy: Well who is she then?

Monkey: Grandma.

Mommy: who is she to me? Just some lady?

Monkey: yep, just some lady.

He's mommy's boy

Just in case anyone wondered.
He came to me while I was working on the computer and asked if I could put the ball up on the climbing wall so that he could go and get it. It took him about 3 seconds (enough time to get these two shots).
He's all yours.

Climb ho!!!

Here are the boys in action. For those of you who had '30 seconds' for the amount of time that it would take them to get onto this thing, congratulations!
Big C has started to climb, though he needs a little more meat on his bones to have the strength to pull himself up.
Monkey however is off and climbing. Looks like we'll need to increase the level of difficulty on this one to give him a challenge.

What a beauty!!!

Yesterday afternoon our good friend Paul dropped off this beautiful book stand for the boys to use. The handiwork is fabulous, especially the working on the top of the shelf, and the boys just absolutely love it. With Monkey and I home today, we got right to picking out his favourite books to put on the top shelves (assuming that Big C will get the bottom ones based only on their current heights, not age). He lovingly picked out his top picks and was very, very happy to have this to show off his reading materials (I'm not sure whether or not everyone can make out the 'book that mommy made me - about riding the school bus - located just behind Monkey on the 2nd shelf). This piece of work is phenomenal and will certainly be enjoyed for years to come. Monkey's calling so I'm off to read books.
Thank you Paul!!

Mommy's new adventure

Mommy went shopping.
A new Kijiji.com triumph.
Well done sweetie.
The boys will LOVE it!
(keeping them off it will be another story)

PS it's AWESOME!!

The Easter Egg hunt

We woke up and decided that it was time to do the egg hunt Chez WB. Daddy took to hiding the eggs by colour and height so that all 3 of the kids could find them, however without Monkey home it became a free-for-all between Big C and Mimi.
Things got off to a raucous start with Big C overjoyed at the treats that he was finding. They were largely at his level, though mommy was sure to help in the fun whenever she could.
Mimi had to fend for herself and did quite well indeed.
Here is one egg that was overlooked, until Big C and mommy saw the camera pointing there. Big C was on top of it!
At the conclusion (at least I think we found them all) the egg hunters enjoyed their spoils.

Sick day/home day

As previously discussed the boys were sick over the weekend. That meant that Monday was a home day. Mommy stayed home with the boys while they waited out the 24/48 hours allocated by the Day Nurseries Act before they can return to regular programming. The boys woke up on Monday feeling much MUCH better and were more than happy to spend the day tearing around the house. We played games (like the Thomas memory game from Grandma and Grandpa W and the Wonder Pets I Spy game from Shay (hope you're feeling okay love)) and the boys snuggled together. They really get along with each other and genuinely enjoy being brothers...well, 85% of the time or so!

Building stuff with Daddy

The boys had a really quiet weekend. Monkey was throwing up and Big C had a fever. We stayed at home and they recuperated.

We have a plethora of art work coming home from the various schools and day cares that the boys attend. Rather than leave them piled up around the house we have decided to put up a string on the wall and hang their stuff up like a clothes line .Monkey was more than happy to help daddy out with the power tools.
