Mailbag - Part I

Big C got some mail recently and today was the day to open it! When he found out that the mail was for him his was really excited - almost beyond words. He eagerly opened the package from Godfather J and Godmother K, though with the efficiency of the packaging from Canada Post he needed a little help in getting it open. Very soon it was open and....tada!
A backhoe loader (someone knows these kids well)!
We worked together to construct it, though I must say that Big C did most of the piece recognition and affixing all by himself. The finished product looks great (thanks to the very clear Playmobil instructions diagrams a la IKEA) and certainly a HUGE HIT!
I must admit however, I think that he was equally excited about the toothbrush with his name on it. He exclaimed 'a big boy toothbrush! Daddy, I'll spit out my toothpaste so that I can use the Lightning McQueen toothpaste!'.
Thanks J and K. Big C just loves the wonderful gifts!

Monster Trucks!!! Part 1

The boys and Grandpa, Paul and Heather went to the Gloucester Fair on the weekend. Central ot this visit was the desire to show the boys the MONSTER TRUCKS.

Of course, the boys were more than willing to join in the fun.

From the photos mommy got back after the event...it looks like fun was had by all : )

Time to plant mommy's flowers

A while ago we promised mommy some flowers. Since she doesn't prefer the ones that live inside the house for a week and then die, we decided to wait until the flowers at the 'flower store' (the outdoor centre that has cropped up in the parking lot of our grocery story) were ready to go. Yesterday we stopped by and the boys each picked out their flower for mommy. They chose the 2 prettiest ones in the whole place and brought them home to surprise her.
Here are some shots of the boys as they look for just the right place to plant them:
Dig a hole to make the right space for them:
And then give them a new home:
The boys were thrilled and it put a smile on mommy's face. We love you sunshine!

Bowling Family Date Night

Once a week Dave and I go for a date night. This gives us a chance to go out somewhere and eat and have a conversation without any little people. We get to hang out and spent time together as a couple. Currently this ritual is facilitated by the fact that we have a 17 year old living in the house who baby sits the kids for us.

Mimi is away this weekend (starting Thursday morning) so we had no sitter. We opted to go for a family date night rather than forego the experience.

We went bowling at Merival Bowling lanes and it was a BLAST!!! The boys were absolutely in to it and the score board shows it! Monkey scored a 116 and Big C got a 93. Even with the bumpers up this is very impressive! Daddy bowled a 135 and Mommy pulled three strikes out on the last two frames to hit 175.There was lots of cheering for ourselves and for each other.Monkey was having so much fun! You can see the excitement on his face here. You'll also notice that his feet are right off of the ground!
Here's Monkey giving Big C some older brother advice as to how it's done.

Big C was so proud of himself. He really did soooo well. Here he is showing off his 'I'm the greatest' move like Mohammad Ali!
We ordered a pizza for supper almost as we walked through the doors. It arrived in about the third frame and everyone agreed that it was a fabulous pizza.
At the end of the game we decided it best to leave on a high note. We all had a great time and there were plenty of high 5's to be had.
Big C asked in the car already when we'd be going back. With how much fun we all had, it certainly won't be long. Anyone wanna come for the fun???

Uncle J's fabulous train

Uncle J sent the boys Christmas gift back with me to Ottawa, so today was the day for the boys to tear into it. I got a few pictures to capture some the excitement, but the video (help please SJ) to follow is just phenomenal. They absolutely love it and I can't wait for the long weekend to get it up and running. Here are the photos for now.

The temporary train bed

Big C got a new train bed a couple of weeks ago. This happened so that we could move the office in to his room since his room has the cable outlet. The back room is really too small for a race car bed (they are about 8 feet by 5 feet) so we got him a train bed.Monkey thought that it might be fun to have a train bed as well. The challenge is that he is already pretty tall. We've told him that he can have a train bed for now and then whenever he decides that he is ready for a race car bed again, we'll keep his in the basement for him. As you can see, it is really a matter of days or weeks rather than months or years!

What's worse than watching paint dry?

Check out this link for the world's longest chemistry experiment. It started more than 80 years ago as a chemistry teacher tried to explain that pitch is really a liquid and not a solid. It's let out 8 drops through the bottom of the funnel in 80 YEARS!
No one has ever seen a drop actually fall (though I'm not sure how they let that one fall through the cracks). The next drop is due 'soon' so they have a live web-cam hooked up. You can click on the 'view it live' link below the picture for all of the 'action'. Just imagine, if you view it drop you could tell all of your friends that you saw this pinacle of science wonder!!
(and yes, thank you sunshine...I think that this officially makes me a geek now)

Back from the farm

In a surprise for mother's day, I decided to hop on VIA and go to my sister's farm for the weekend. We planned it out that my brother J would pick me up in TO and from there we'd head out to my sister, brother-in-law, Cousin Banana and Iggy's place. The train ride was great and I read a ton of stuff that I've been putting off for awhile. My brother was a great host and after a fantastic Saturday morning breakfast we were off to the farm. We arrived about a half an hour before my folks, so I was able to hide on my mom without her knowing. I surprised her by sneaking up behind her in the kitchen and it was AWESOME. She gave me a series of big hugs and was nearly in tears. We had a great lunch put on by Aunt K and then just hung out for the afternoon. I went into town with Aunt K and got some stuff so that I could make everyone some great pizza's for supper. That night my brother-in-law B, brother J and I took dad out for a boy's night to watch the hockey game. It was a really great night to just hang out with my dad like he was one of the guys. I hope that he knows how much it meant to me.
The next morning we all made something for brunch (I did pancakes!) and then just enjoyed each other's company and played with the girls. Wow how they've grown. It was a great mother's day for my mom and she mentioned countlessly how wonderful it was to have her 3 kids under the same roof for her special day.
All too soon I was back on the train, but not before I had a bunch of gifts for the boys - stuff from mom and dad's trip to SC and the Christmas presents from Uncle J that never made it up here earlier.
The boys were ALL OVER IT! Monkey really loves the shirt with the shark on it, as well as the construction paper for doing artwork (he's already copied the design on one of the pages for his first project) and the puzzle. Big C LOVES his new shirts (video will surely follow since I was able to grab it), the Lightning McQueen writing paper and the puzzle. Here are some shots of the boys barely able to contain their excitement. They were so overjoyed that we just couldn't open Uncle J's Christmas gifts or they'd still be awake, so we'll save that for right after school ends on Wednesday. I'll be sure to have the camera for that! Here are some shots of SJ opening her gifts!
Thanks so much for a wonderful weekend - and to boot I came home to a wonderful wife that had everything I needed to do to start the week already taken care of. I love you sunshine. I'm so very fortunate to have you in my walk through life.
