This past Sunday afternoon we checked off one the last items on our Mudgee list. Our good friend, Ben, invited us out to his father's house in a nearby town to check out his dad's hot rod collection.
Ben's dad is a Ford guy, through and through.
The boys were absolutely thrilled to check out his cars.
Here is BigC sitting in the driver's seat of a 1969 Mustang:
It is a gorgeous car and photographs very, very well.Monkey took his turn at the wheel. I'm sure that he would love to take this out for a spin in 4 or 5 years or so. We mentioned that both Grandpas ( W and B) owned similar-era Ford Mustangs in their earlier days and that both of them had to see them go when their oldest children were born.
They loved the seating room more in the 1938 Coupe. It's an absolutely stunning automobile.
Here is Monkey in the front with Big C enjoying the bench seat in the back. This one had us thinking of Uncle J and his love of Ford trucks.
Then Ben's dad took the boys for a drive. They were grinning ceaselessly from ear-to-ear as he drove along the lawn out onto the roadway and let her go.
He showed the boys the hard work that he personally put into restoring each of the vehicles and their engines.
He took them back to his massive garage where he has a few other cars under wraps and other projects underway. Here's an older model Ford Ute that he has off the road at the moment. Big C hung to every word that he had to say.
Last of all, the boys climbed down into the pit to get a "spider's eye view" of where all of the action takes place on working underneath the car.
It was certainly a highlight for both boys and I think that both of them would have gladly moved in to lend a hand on the cars all day, everyday for months or years on end.
