NZ Day 2-Christchurch

We walked around Christchurch today to see more of the city. The church that was built to temporarily replace the cathedral has been built out of cardboard tubes.
It is a very interesting to see how they did it.
We had a picnic in Latimer park and then walked back to the core.
Christchurch is very much a city under construction. There are cranes and new buildings everywhere that you look.
I won't pretend that I was not a bit freaked out when I felt the floor shaking in the re:start mall (Lululemon change room to be precise). It was just construction.
It's a friendly city that is very excited to be rebuilding and very welcoming to visitors. In Ottawa you could find yourself on a slow roasting spit for parking like this.
In Christchurch you get this note on your windscreen:
The highlight of the day was the Canterbury museum.  It was full of awesome exhibits,  including a Da Vinci exhibition with lots of hands on stuff the boys could interact with.

They loved the dinosaurs,
 and the vehicles.

They hammed it up as Monkey Lisa
 and BigC Lisa.
They constructed Da Vinci's temporary military purpose bridge.
We collected our hire care (photos to come) and settled in for a relaxing evening.

This was our last full day in Christchurch. Tomorrow we leave for Twizel and Takepo.
