How'd we miss this???

Somehow, and daddy will take the heat on this one, photos of Big C's birthday cake from last year were missed.
Saje outdid herself with a super-looking Cars theme. Here is the proof of her Herculean effort:

Monkey's birthday party

Monkey had a Toy Story 3 themed birthday party this year. Here are a couple of pictures of it that I captured on my phone. The first is the cowboy hat cake. Here he is blowing out the candles. He is dressed up like Woody, the main character.

Construction Cake take two

Big C's family birthday party is tomorrow. In preparation I made the cake tonight. It turned out so nice and high that I can't get the lid on my Tupperware cake keeper!
He spotted it on the counter on his way up to bed and got really, REALLY excited about it and the party. Monkey helped me decorate the top of it. I was happy with three trucks, he really wanted to add the fourth. He also helped me to clean up the wax paper that I used to protect the platter from the icing.

The Construction Birthday Cake

It's birthday season around here and this time it is Big C's turn.I wont even try to top last year's Mater Cake. We know that construction is another big love, so off I went. Here Bob and the gang are right in the middle of a serious project. I don't think that there is an instructional video, but they should be able to get the job done.
They got stuck at the section with the 8 hole board but quickly managed to move on when they remembered that it is a G rated blog.

The Magic School Bus Cake

We've had some fun cakes through this house. My all time favourite is still the Mater cake from last year (if you have not watched those videos recently you really should!!).

This year we are having a Magic School Bus cake. I'll try to get a photo of his face when he sees it. That is the WHOLE reason that I do this!

Mater cake

Whaddaya yer think?

The Mater cake cont'd

They key for me would be big C's reaction to the cake. I wanted him to be able to see that it was Mater. I didn't want to have to tell him that. I showed him the cake and asked him who it was, he looked, and paused and said "BEATER". Ahh, success!! He knew it was Mater! He then wanted to see the cake again and again.

Here I have a video of him sitting at the table having a discussion explaining the wheels on the bus to his friend the Mater cake.

It could drop on the floor in a million peices now for all it matters to me : ) I made Big C exactly what he wanted and he is happy. Ahh, the golden moments of parenting.

Monkey's 4th Birthday Party

Today was Monkey's 4th birthday party with his friends. We had a blast!! Our theme was Disney Pixar Cars and we invited a mob. First we got the house decorated, including a real set of racing suits and helmets. The boys thought those were a riot. You can see Monkey racing around in his "race car" while Big C just tries to stay upright with the heavy helmet on his head.We stuffed the suits and they raced the frame of our car bed by the side of the room. Super cute!! Once the mob arrived we headed down to the basement to turn them loose on the toys. That kept them occupied until everyone had arrived.
We then headed upstairs to have every child decorate thier own personal cake to bring home.
They each got thier own bowl of candy and cars and went to town sticking stuff on wherever they could find the space.I hope all of the mommies and daddies enjoy thier dessert tonight : ) Once the cakes were done it was time to go down to the basement and play with the parachute.
Some of the kids hung back and played with all of the "new to them" toys in the room and the rest hung out around the parachute. We worked up quite an appetite doing that so it was soon time to head up for hot dogs and cake. Monkey loved his Lightening McQueen racetrack birthday cake and everyone dug in. I made the track out of Oreo cookie crumbs. While coffee grounds would have worked just as well, it just didn't seem like a good idea for taste or for the effect that would have on 11 4 year olds!!!The kids happily dug in to the cake and then it was time to open the presents. We threw the Cars movie on the TV and let the birthday boy have a blast with his gifts. The kids all gathered 'round as he dove in. He was so excited with every new treasure. Everyone was so generous and he was so pleased, thanks so much to everyone!! We can't wait to thank you all personally.
His room, wardrobe, bathtub and toy box will forever bear the memories of his awesome Cars birthday party with his friends.

Monkey's Birthday Party

All Abooooooaaaaaaaard!! Monkey turned three and we had a "choo choo" birthday to celebrate the big event.

Our little engineers arrived and donned engineer hats, complete with their name on the back. They rode the rails (played with all of the toys) for a good long go and then retired to the dining car where they luxuriated with hot dogs and french fries. They discussed the world's issues as they ate broccoli dipped in orange juice.

The dessert car came by after their gourmet lunch was done and they ate the yummiest and prettiest birthday cake ever seen this side of a steam locomotive. Thanks to executive baker Brigitte for making the cake for Monkey.

The mornings activities drew to a close with a live musical performance as all 7 children whistled a happy tune on their wooden train whistles.
Thanks to Godfather Jeff and Kelly for coming all the way from London and for Heather and Nick for flying in from India for the big event.
Monkey had an absolutely fabulous time. Thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated with us.
