The Mater cake cont'd

They key for me would be big C's reaction to the cake. I wanted him to be able to see that it was Mater. I didn't want to have to tell him that. I showed him the cake and asked him who it was, he looked, and paused and said "BEATER". Ahh, success!! He knew it was Mater! He then wanted to see the cake again and again.

Here I have a video of him sitting at the table having a discussion explaining the wheels on the bus to his friend the Mater cake.

It could drop on the floor in a million peices now for all it matters to me : ) I made Big C exactly what he wanted and he is happy. Ahh, the golden moments of parenting.

The Magic School Bus Cake

We've had some fun cakes through this house. My all time favourite is still the Mater cake from last year (if you have not watched those videos recently you really should!!).

This year we are having a Magic School Bus cake. I'll try to get a photo of his face when he sees it. That is the WHOLE reason that I do this!

The Construction Birthday Cake

It's birthday season around here and this time it is Big C's turn.I wont even try to top last year's Mater Cake. We know that construction is another big love, so off I went. Here Bob and the gang are right in the middle of a serious project. I don't think that there is an instructional video, but they should be able to get the job done.
They got stuck at the section with the 8 hole board but quickly managed to move on when they remembered that it is a G rated blog.

mmmmmm Beaters

For those of you that have been following the blog for YEARS, you will get the reference to how Big C used to call Mater from the movie Cars "Beater".  Anyhow, back to this blog post (now that Heather and I have watched those old videos a few times!).  We are having dinner with some new friends tonight and I am responsible to bring dessert.

I noticed some bananas that were in need of being baked in to something and remembered that we are Canadian and have a small stash of maple syrup with us.  Immediately I decided to make my mom's favourite recipe, Banana Upside Down Cake.

I got going in the kitchen, got the whole thing in the oven and looked to my right...then to my left...and there was no one else home to help me with the beaters or the bowl.  How sad for them.

It has not escaped my notice that it feels pretty pointless to put a cake in the window to cool when it is 33 degrees Celsius out.  You've got to work with what you have on hand.

Big C's Birthday Party

What would a birthday be without a party. We had some of Big C's friends over to help him to celebrate. They had a great time.
Dave asked if he wanted to open his presents, this was his answer, arms straight up in the air:He received gifts of trucks trucks and then some more trucks. He was completely bside himself with happiness.

Things got a little dicey when it came time to cut into Mater. Big C was not at all convinced that we should be doing that. When he realised that Mater was a cake and very edible he calmed down.

Everyone went home and napped! A success all around : )
