Monkey quote of the day

"Mommy it would be great if we all had three hands. Two in the usual spot and a third one coming from the belly button. That way we could hug and tickle at the same time."

I loved this one! I think this speaks to a boy with a lot of love in his life!

Junk Night!!!

To reduce the amount of requests for candy in the household we decided to model ourselves after our friends and institute a Junk Night. The bean bowl will transform beans into junk during their shower and they come downstairs to find JUNK! We're going through the Easter candy (still) and a few other favourites that include Twizzlers turned into straws for pop and a lollipop for Big C this week. The boys love it (and mommy too).

Monkey's favourite part of the day today

Monkey

Monkey's life at school has been getting a little rough. He confided in me that he is being teased in the boys washroom. It seems that they were teasing him while he was using "the bathroom with no door". As a female it took me a couple of minutes to understand that this is a urinal he is talking about.

We sat down (he and I) and we talked about some things that he could do to try to stop the teasing. We came up with the fact that he could use a stall and close the door.

Teachers can only work with what they know. On Monday he yelled at the boys and told them to stop. His teacher heard this and, not knowing what was going on, isolated Monkey so that he would not cause trouble. On Tuesday and Wednesday he was sent to the bathroom after the others and went on his own. This solution did work for him since he wasn't being teased, but didn't address the root of the problem.

I sent her an email letting her know that he was being teased and asking her if she had noticed anything. She looked in to it, figured out who was instigating the issue and has isolated him instead. Monkey is using a stall with a door (one of the solutions that we had discussed) and the other boy uses the washroom once the rest of them are done.

This has had a real impact on our Monkey. He got 1 of three stickers on Monday, 2 on Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday. His worst week in a LONG time. He got three yesterday, lets hope that it continues today. I am feeling like a good parent for being able to gently help him to work through the problem. It isn't world peace, but it helps.

Why I can safely buy stock in Timmy's

Tonight marked the 12th successful poop on the potty in a row. The kid seems to know just the right time (in his room, after bedtime has commenced and occasionally just after nap time has commenced) to go in his little ensuite bathroom. The ensuite is actually the Baby Bjorn potty (he hated the IKEA one) tucked in the corner. He just loves it there. He's been wonderfully successful and reaping the rewards. I can tell for sure that he has the knack since the tone at the Timmy's in our neighbourhood has changed in its tone. We stop by the next morning after a successful go on the potty and it's usually the first thing that he mentions after we even see the car.

About a week ago the conversation went something like this:
'Tim Hortons, can I help you?"
"two chocolate tim bits please (with a note of elation from the back seat)'

(long pause)
".....uhhh, will that be all???'
'yes, thank you'
(longer pause)
'um, that'll be 36 cents (with a snicker). Please pull ahead'

The conversation this morning:
'Tim Hortons, can I help you?"
"two chocolate tim bits please (with a note of elation from the back seat)'
(immediately)'that'll be 36 cents, enjoy your day!!'

I'm positive that they're watching from the inside as the same dad gives the same order to the same little boy in the backseat of the same car at about the same time each day. I wonder if they've seen it before??

Way to go little buddy!

Happy Birthday daddy!!

Happy birthday honey!! For Dave's birthday this year I bought him two new chairs for the living room. I'll admit that is slightly self serving since he only has one bum and can't sit in both chairs simultaneously *wink*.

We also got him a mug with the boys hand prints on it. Grandma really worked hard to get it ready in time (thank you!!). Here is a video of the best sound ever. Big C loves the chairs and gravitates to whoever is in them. If you want snuggles, this is how you get them!

He loves it and is having a wonderful birthday.

**Monkey doesn't appear in the photos since he wasn't feeling well and was laying down.

Woman killed by laptop in Surrey crash

Something to think about while you're driving around with stuff loose in your car: http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/04/15/bc-surrey-laptop-crash-kills-woman.html?ref=rss

Police in Surrey, B.C., are warning people to secure their belongings while driving after a young woman was apparently killed by her laptop last month.

Heather Storey, 25, of Delta died after the small car she was driving was hit by a tow truck turning left.

When investigators looked into the incident, however, they concluded she would have survived if not for her laptop computer.

Storey was on her way out of town for work at the time of the accident and usually kept her laptop in a backpack in the backseat, according to her brother Michael Pratt.
"What we believe happened [was] that she was struck in the back of her head and neck with this laptop computer," RCMP Sgt. Roger Morrow said Wednesday morning at the Surrey detachment, east of Vancouver "She simply didn't have it secured within the confines of her car, and ultimately it has been the instrument of her death," he said Her brother and mother also spoke at the detachment, warning others to take precautions to avoid similar preventable accidents.

"We miss Heather a lot. There is a whole lot to talk about, but I think mainly we're just trying to address the issue of, maybe, try not to keep stuff that can get airborne or hit you, just because your family, and people that care about you, really will miss you when you're gone," said Pratt.

Quote of the day

I called Pier 1 Imports to let them know that my mom would be picking up my order today. No problem is the answer. I get off the phone and Monkey is quite annoyed:

Monkey: Mommy, when are you going to stop saying that Grandma is your mom?

Mommy: Ummm, but she's my mom sweetie.

Monkey: Not any more.

Mommy: when did she stop being my mom?

Monkey: when you became a grown up.

Mommy: Well who is she then?

Monkey: Grandma.

Mommy: who is she to me? Just some lady?

Monkey: yep, just some lady.

He's mommy's boy

Just in case anyone wondered.
He came to me while I was working on the computer and asked if I could put the ball up on the climbing wall so that he could go and get it. It took him about 3 seconds (enough time to get these two shots).
He's all yours.

Climb ho!!!

Here are the boys in action. For those of you who had '30 seconds' for the amount of time that it would take them to get onto this thing, congratulations!
Big C has started to climb, though he needs a little more meat on his bones to have the strength to pull himself up.
Monkey however is off and climbing. Looks like we'll need to increase the level of difficulty on this one to give him a challenge.

What a beauty!!!

Yesterday afternoon our good friend Paul dropped off this beautiful book stand for the boys to use. The handiwork is fabulous, especially the working on the top of the shelf, and the boys just absolutely love it. With Monkey and I home today, we got right to picking out his favourite books to put on the top shelves (assuming that Big C will get the bottom ones based only on their current heights, not age). He lovingly picked out his top picks and was very, very happy to have this to show off his reading materials (I'm not sure whether or not everyone can make out the 'book that mommy made me - about riding the school bus - located just behind Monkey on the 2nd shelf). This piece of work is phenomenal and will certainly be enjoyed for years to come. Monkey's calling so I'm off to read books.
Thank you Paul!!

Mommy's new adventure

Mommy went shopping.
A new Kijiji.com triumph.
Well done sweetie.
The boys will LOVE it!
(keeping them off it will be another story)

PS it's AWESOME!!

The Easter Egg hunt

We woke up and decided that it was time to do the egg hunt Chez WB. Daddy took to hiding the eggs by colour and height so that all 3 of the kids could find them, however without Monkey home it became a free-for-all between Big C and Mimi.
Things got off to a raucous start with Big C overjoyed at the treats that he was finding. They were largely at his level, though mommy was sure to help in the fun whenever she could.
Mimi had to fend for herself and did quite well indeed.
Here is one egg that was overlooked, until Big C and mommy saw the camera pointing there. Big C was on top of it!
At the conclusion (at least I think we found them all) the egg hunters enjoyed their spoils.

Day 7

We started the day at the park at about 9:30. We just can't seem to make it there for park opening! We split up and Dave got FPs for Space Mountain - good starting at 1:55! I grabbed FPs for Big Thunder Mountain good for 10:50. We stayed split and BC and daddy went on the race cars three times in a row while Monkey and I went on Pirates of the Caribbean twice and then participated in a show with Captain Jack Sparrow and Monkey got a cool certificate.

We joined forces and took the Tomorrowland Transit Authority "blue train". As we were going by we noticed what we thought was a new part of the track. Nope, just that all of the lights were on inside Space Mountain. It was pretty cool to see all of it in the day light like that. The lights were on because the ride was down. That was a bit of a theme for the day as it turns out.

We grabbed lunch at the same place as earlier in the week (yummy wraps) and we purchased three full meals and still felt like we were force feeding ourselves. The portions are HUGE! We didn't have the symphony of screaming like we did the other day since Splash Mountain was down.

We tried putting BC down for a nap but he wasn't having any of it. Monkey took Mommy and daddy on Big Thunder mountain once each. I wasn't too impressed since it was running at half speed for my turn. Big C was quite bitter about not being allowed on the ride. Poor guy. He could see the "trains" and he desperately wanted a piece of it.

We zipped out of there and aimed for Tomorrow Land to look for BC's firetruck. This was the thing he decided that he wanted after looking all week in the stores. The store was closed. The one store (kiosk) that we saw all week that had it was closed! So I did some asking around and found a manager. She found me a dead end so I found another manager. She got them to open the kiosk. They were out of stock so they checked the stock room. Nothing. Crap, crap, crap. I am trying to convince him to consider something else...I might as well talk to a wall. Then they told us that there was another store, in the Disney fire station that might sell it. Now how did I get this far without knowing that there is a Disney fire station??? Anyhow. I hoofed it down there with him and we found it!! He was so excited! We arranged to have it waiting at the main gate when we left and went off and used our Buzz Lightyear FPs. We then grabbed popcicles and headed for Space Mountain and Daddy and Monkey went on while BC pouted about not being allowed on the ride. Poor guy. They came out and our rider switch was aborted when the ride went down, AGAIN. We've seen a lot of rides down. Today along space mountain (twice), splash mountain, the tomorrowland express, and big thunder mountain were all down for extended periods of time. We decided to make up for it with some popcicles. The boys were overjoyed and thoroughly appreciated the cold treat on a nice warm day.

We went to the Lilo and Stitch ride (we had a FP) and it was a bomb. What a waste of time. It was scary without any real point to it. We used the granola bar shoes, not that anyone checked (bitter, disappointed tone to my voice).

After that monkey and I managed to get on Space mountain and now we're in the waiting room at Tony's anticipating another yummy experience here. We don't have a reservation, but we prefer this to the place where we do have a reservation tonight. While waiting to get in the boys played with Hula-hoops next to the big parade. They had a blast and mommy joined in for some dancing to the music!Later....it is 9:30 now and supper at Tony's was yummy. I had the salmon, as did both boys. Dave had the Ribeye.

We used the "get priority on anything you want" card that we got as an apology for the mishap with the store being closed, to get on the Peter Pan ride (very cool and totally eman friendly) and then headed out for our final walk down Main Street USA.It is sad to have it over, yet we both feel that we have thoroughly done and seen all that we need to. We polished off the trip with the typical picture in front of Mickey and Walt Disney. We won't come back next year. Sorry Matt that doesn't mean a hot tub, it means that we want to go on a cruise...maybe over Christmas, maybe over March Break. We'll see. Anyone want to join us??

Woo hoo

Check out the forecast. Anyone for shorts?

Sick day/home day

As previously discussed the boys were sick over the weekend. That meant that Monday was a home day. Mommy stayed home with the boys while they waited out the 24/48 hours allocated by the Day Nurseries Act before they can return to regular programming. The boys woke up on Monday feeling much MUCH better and were more than happy to spend the day tearing around the house. We played games (like the Thomas memory game from Grandma and Grandpa W and the Wonder Pets I Spy game from Shay (hope you're feeling okay love)) and the boys snuggled together. They really get along with each other and genuinely enjoy being brothers...well, 85% of the time or so!

Building stuff with Daddy

The boys had a really quiet weekend. Monkey was throwing up and Big C had a fever. We stayed at home and they recuperated.

We have a plethora of art work coming home from the various schools and day cares that the boys attend. Rather than leave them piled up around the house we have decided to put up a string on the wall and hang their stuff up like a clothes line .Monkey was more than happy to help daddy out with the power tools.

Day 6 Animal Kingdom - Back on track

Big C slept in until almost 8 this morning but we still got to the park for 9. We rushed back and got our FPs for the safari ride and then went to go and see the Lion King. It was a beautiful show. At one point there are some incredible gymnasts doing a great performance and Big C says "gymnastics! I can do that".(unfortunately we had such a great day that the camera didn't make it out of our pockets for the rest of the day!)

We left the show and went on to Finding Nemo the musical. It was magical. The boys were quite taken with it. It is also eman friendly.

We went to Yak and Yeti for a table service lunch (we didn't have a reservation). It was delicious. I had a rack of ribs and Dave had steak and shrimp. The kids had carrot sticks, apple sauce, chicken nuggets, juice and chocolate ice cream. At this point we are starting to feel like we are force feeding ourselves!! There is just so much food at every meal. Even with all of the walking we've been doing it is going to be a week before I fit into my clothes again!!

Big C was done and looking for a nap after lunch so we put him in the stroller and headed for Everest. BEST RIDE EVER!! Monkey had decided on a Yeti stuffi to be his one souvenir for the week so we picked it up. He was displeased that we opted to have it shipped to the hotel (free) rather than carry it with us all day, but we explained that it is white and best not dragged through the park all day.

I went on twice and Dave went on once (today). Monkey accompanied us each once but opted out for my second trip. By then BC was asleep and we went on a wander through the jungle trek. We saw tigers (I want to be one) and bats and other fun beasts.

We left there and got Monkey the soft pretzel he has been asking for. We watched all of the parade and then Big C woke up. He was so pleased to discover that upon waking up he was immediately going on a jeep safari ride!

We went on the ride again and it was fun. The driver wasn't as entertaining as our driver from the first visit (Chris) but he was okay and the jeep and savannah were entertaining enough.

By the time we came off of that we were feeling reasonably tired and not at all hungry. Despite the lack of hunger we all got popsicles (see, force feeding!) We had four fps for the Kali River Rapids but didn't feel like going. The temperature was fine but the sun wasn't really out and there was a breeze. Last time we went on it this week Monkey and Daddy were soaked and stayed that way for several hours. We handed our four FPs to some family who figured they were not going to get to go (the wait by the gate time was 80 minutes and the FPs were long gone for the day. Then took off for home.

The three boys had a long dip in the pool and by then it was 7 and we opted to clean the boys off and put them to bed.

Dave is currently in the arcade using up our 30 minutes of free arcade time.
