We woke up in our rustic little cabin and headed to Cataract Gorge for the morning before our drive to Bicheno.
The park is incredible! We rode on a chairlift (they accepted our Acces2 card) that was very reminiscent of my younger days riding the chairlifts at the Chelsea, Quebec ski hills. BigC and I rode together and he loved it!! He is getting much more adventurous than when wee left Canada.
Without intending to (and this will become a theme) we went on a walk to the start of an awesome hike (see Endomundo map) and we couldn't resist completing the hike.
We've learned that hikes that give an estimated time duration do not generally apply to our family. We've started calling those estimations "tourist time". This particular hike was meant to take over an hour. As you can see, it took us less than half of that. It was a steady climb up and lots of fun.
We've also learned that the Australians do not mess around with their warning signs. This one is a stunning example of a warning that leaves no room to feign ignorance.

After lunch in the company of peacocks we hopped in the car and made the, sometimes harrowing, 3 hour drive to Bicheno.
They didn't even bother to put up a guardrail on this section of the road. |
Our cabin was advertised as a 1 bedroom cabin. It was actually a studio cottage with a bed and pull out couch both in the shared living space. Here you can see our use of child labour to make the pull out couch in to a bed
