Review of Santé Restaurant

Last night Dave and I went out for a date.  We printed off a coupon for Santé restaurant from visaperks.ca.  We ordered the Organic Asian Combo (Vietnamese spring roll, Thai shrimp roll, organic salmon satay ~ 9).  Dave had the Traditional Thai Curry with chicken (free range chicken or fresh prawns, Thai yellow curry, Asian vegetables, rice ~ 20)  and I had the Pad Thai (chicken, shrimp, tofu, egg, peanuts, lemon, and Thai noodle - hot, medium or mild ~ 18).  The restaurant is right in the heart of downtown so parking during Winterlude was, understandably, a gong show.  Being cheap, we parked on Albert and put on our tuques on and walked.  We are not experts on Thai food by any stretch but we really enjoyed the food.  My Pad Thai was medium and I could have totally gone for more spice.  It was tasty as it was though, just mild.  The dishes were garnished beautifully with balls of watermelon and cantaloupe as well as a strawberry, oranges, lemons limes and carrot and cucumber slices.  The appetiser was a little skinny in terms of portion size, but they also brought nice warm bread and oil and vinegar.  I went in to the meal starving and was comfortably full half way through.  The server was polite and efficient.  No real chit chat, which is fine, I wasn't there to spend the night with him.  The whole bill, with coupon was mid $30 range.  A great price for a dinner for two.

We topped the evening off with a quick visit to the Canadian War Museum.  Unfortunately it was only a quick visit since it was late, but there is no admission on Thursday nights so it was a cool way to spend an hour.  I don't think that the boys will enjoy this museum for a couple of years.  It is a wonderful museum but it is not the sort of place that little boys can play, it is a lot of stopping and reading or watching a quick video clip.  The one display for the first world war that was interactive didn't seem to work.  There is a spot to look through a lens to check your eyesight.  Neither Dave or I could see anything...either we are legally blind or it wasn't working!!

We were home by 9:30 and will enjoy doing it all again soon.
