Monkey has been struggling with school for a little while now. We have been getting a variety of reports that things are not going well. They have started coming directly from him. He has been telling us that he has no friends and that no one likes him. He has been playing by himself and eating lunch by himself since no one will play or sit with him. He has been crying in my lap in the morning telling me that he doesn't want to go to school.
The teacher and principal at his school feel that he should learn to deal with life's dissapointments and finish what he started, namely the school year. They feel that if we "give in" to him telling us how unhappy he is, that we are putting him in control and that will scare him.
We feel that he emotial well being is more important than anything and that it is our duty as parents to respond to his needs and advocate for him. We feel that by responding to him when he tells us he is unhappy, it lets him know that we are there for him and that his feelings are important to us.
We have removed him from his school and enrolled him in Big C's school where he is part of a 1-5 ratio on a daily basis. He starts on Monday and is very excited.
