NZ Day 18-South Island portion

We started the day with snuggles. You see, an 11 year old had gone to bed but a 12 year old woke up. It's odd how that seems to happen when you're not looking.
We packed up, checked out and hopped in the car for the 2 hour drive to Picton.
This is a scenic drive we were told...perhaps it's more scenic when the tide isn't out?
We discovered a you pick cherry place that was charging $12/kilo and was not supervising pickers. After finding them already picked for $19/kilo everywhere else, we ran in to the orchard with abandon!
Samples we enjoyed, cherries were picked. Life was happy!
Next stop, Edwin Fox Museum in Picton (on the doorstep of the loading for the inter island ferry we need to take later)
The boys loved the ship, dressing up, goofing around
Checking out the hull where many cargoes had been carried,
Checking out the dry docks
Just to get the scale of things.
Soon it was time to check in and board the ferry to the North Island to start the second half of our adventure in New Zealand.
Quick picnic lunch and then Monkey and I went off in search of WiFi as a couple of folks back home wanted to chat with the 12 year old.
The two groups managed to get separated so Dave and BigC drove on to the ferry, while Monkey and I ended up catching he passenger bus to it.
The scenery was stunning as we crossed. The ferry crossing is known to be one of the most beautiful in the world.
