NZ Day 29 - Bay of Islands Boat Ride to the Hole In the Rock

Last night Monkey stumbled in to our room looking a bit stunned. It seems that he ran full speed into a volleyball net. Observers (his brother) said that he ran in to it and then sprang back and just fell straight back on to the ground. Poor kid.
This morning we got picked up in a mini bus, hopped on our Hole in the Rock cruise, saw the ferries in the harbour and saw a crise ship. So really, BigC's day was made well before 9am.

The cruise also featured 'guaranteed dolphin spotting'. As we entered the bay everyone on board kept their eyes peeled for the dolphins. Saje was the first to exclaim ' I see dolphins out the right side of the boat'. We scurried over to a good viewpoint and were able to capture these photos of the young dolphins at play.

We probably watched them play for about 20 minutes. It was so cool to watch.
This boat ride also featured plenty of snuggle time out in the sunshine. The forecast has been exceptional each day and we have been so very fortunate to have such favorable weather on our excursions.
Next, we made our way out to the Hole in the Rock. It was exciting to fit our entire cruise vessel through the opening with just the right tide and calm seas.

We made our way out to one of islands for a 45 minute stop. Dave made his way on a steep wall to a secluded point while the others frolicked on the calm sandy beach (and by frolicked,  Dave means that I laid in the sun and read my book while the boys played)

The quiet allowed for a fantastic  panoramic view of sunset bay, cable bay and the area where our vessel had moored.
Big C loved the roar of the engine and the spray of the water as we zoomed off to Russell for a quiet afternoon of playing on the beach and having ice cream
before taking the ferry ride back to Paihia.
Tomorrow we leave for Auckland. 4 sleeps until we are on that plane.
