NZ Day 25-Rotorua Skyline Gondola and Luge

Grandpa gets no credit for this one. My colleague Pete gets all the props. In both Queenstown and Rotorua you can take a gondola up to a luge site and then hurtle down a mountain. This sounded stupid enough to be fun so we did our research and figured out that going in Rotorua after 6:30pm was the way to get the most rides (5) for the lowest price ($39 per person).
This research, done in Queenstown weeks ago meant that the boys had to choose between instant gratification with fewer rides or waiting until Rotorua.
We waited. The luge concept is a very dangerous one at best. Basically you strap on a helmet, hop in a three wheeled cart with no motor and hurtle down the paved side of a mountain with questionable brakes.
My boys were all in. Especially the tallest one. On the first ride I pulled over to grab some photos of them going past me. They were moving much too quickly.
My phone was in my hand and I could hear
it snapping photos
but there wasn't much of anything
that I could do about it
since I was hurtling down the side of a mountain...
In between rides you go back up on a chairlift. Dave and Monkey are on the lift behind us here
being very mature
as always
it's important to set a solid example for the next generation
Our second trip was straight from the beginner hill and on to the advanced. We had agreed that I would pull over the take photos but there were not any places to stop.
I didn't know that yet and had the camera in my hand ready to go.
It's not easy to text and luge
I would like to suggest that it is unwise to text and luge
Did I mention that I bought new shoes in Melbourne a couple of months ago?
They were $100 off! Do you like them?
More chairlifts....
More lugeing

Chairlifts...
All too soon our 5 rides were done.
It was an awesome evening for all of us!
