Leaving

Tomorrow we will wake up in another country.  Today we left Australia and don't know when we will ever be back.  It was so much harder to leave than I ever thought it would be.

We've made real, genuine, intimate relationships with people in Australia. It is so much harder than leaving Ottawa because we always knew we would be returning home.

The boys both went to bed in tears Friday night after saying goodbye to great friends, classmates and teachers. Here they are in the daparture lounge in Sydney flipping through the album BigC's class prepared for him.

The temporary trip became a true adventure of a lifetime. 11 months is a very short time in life, but more than enough time to become truly immersed.  The travel was incredible, the people amazing.

We really have our feet and hearts on two continents. Now, as we hurtle through the sky I am hopeful that taking 5 weeks between departing Australia and arriving home to Ottawa will give us some time to grieve what we've lost and get excited about what we are returning to.
The 3 boys with the sun going down visible through the window behind them. Very symbolic of the moment.

We can't wait to see her. I hope that you both will be okay with the transition. You seem to have had a wonderful year together.

What an amazing 11 months you've had. So hard to leave behind those new friends... to come back to the snow and cold :-)
