Giving thanks for your good health? Please Donate blood this Thanksgiving.

Good afternoon friends of Canadian Blood Services,

Giving thanks for your good health? Donate blood and give someone back their health too.

In the weeks leading up to and following Thanksgiving, Canadians are being urged to give blood, as they celebrate their tradition of giving thanks for a number of things, including good health.

This summer the national blood inventory dipped down to critical levels. Plans are in place to recover, however it will take several weeks of higher-than-usual donations to rebuild our blood supply to fully meet hospital demand. If you have ever thought about donating blood or it has been a while since your last donation, patients need your help now!

Thanksgiving, like other long weekends, can be a difficult time to collect blood, because people are away or are busy with family activities, and because it offers one less day of the week for blood collection (approx. 2,800 units across the country). Meanwhile, the demand for blood remains strong due in part to higher traffic on the roads, which can result in traumas requiring blood. Platelets donations are of particular need because they have a shelf life of only five days, making it difficult to store them for future use.

Call Canadian Blood Services at 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236-6283) to book your appointment to donate blood today.

It only takes an hour to save up to three lives. That’s the beauty of giving blood.
